Obanai is the current Serpent Hashira and the primary user of Serpent Breathing Style. He has heterochromia, which means that his right eye is yellow and his left eye is turquoise. This makes his eyes look different from most people’s.

Obanai’s mouth is also strange. When he was 12, it was cut from its corners to his ears so that it looked more like a snake’s mouth. This left him with a large wound that he hides under the bandage he wears over his lower face.

He is a very harsh and strict person who doesn’t care about people who don’t follow the rules for Demon Slayers. His expectations for his fellow Demon Slayers are almost too high. When Tengen Uzui refuses to retire, he scolds him for getting hurt against the “weakest” Upper Rank and tells him to “fight to the death.”

Obanai Abilities

Obanai is one of the toughest hashira in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. During the final fight with Muzan, he was the one who lasted the longest. When Muzan incapacitated all the Hashiras fighting him, he was the first to recover and keep fighting.

It turned out that his right eye was pretty much blind, so he got to the top of the Demon Slayer Corps with only one eye that worked. Obanai’s success in becoming a Hashira is even more impressive when you consider that he was small and didn’t have much physical strength (probably because he had a hard childhood).

Exceptional Contribution to Final Battle

During the Infinity Castle Arc, Obanai was able to quickly and easily cut off the heads of many demons at the same level as Lower Ranks and hold back Nakime, who had just been promoted to Upper Rank Four. Obanai was able to do a lot of damage to Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King, during their fight. He cut off limbs and came close to cutting off the Demon King’s head.

After Muzan’s attack hurt Obanai, Giyu, Sanemi, Gyomei, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Kanao badly, Obanai was the first to wake up and help Tanjiro, even though his eyes had been clawed out during the attack.

Even though Obanai died at the end of the battle, he was undoubtedly one of the most influential people who helped defeat the Demon King.

Demon Slayer Mark

Obanai woke up his own Demon Slayer Mark during the last battle with Muzan.

His Demon Slayer Mark was three snake-like tattoos with big dots that went from his left arm to the left side of his chest. This mark boosted all of Iguro’s natural abilities, as seen when he was able to hit Muzan with powerful sword slashes, quickly dodge and move to avoid all of Muzan’s incredibly fast attacks, and increase his physical stamina and durability so he could keep fighting even though he was severely hurt.

Bright Red Nichirin Sword

Obanai remembers how Muichiro Tokito turned his blade red, so he put all of his strength into gripping his blade and turned it bright red.

But he tried to hold on too tightly and almost passed out from lack of oxygen. Muzan was very vulnerable to his attacks when he turned his Nichirin Sword bright red. This also gave the other Demon Slayers a chance to turn their blades red to increase their offensive power.

Transparent World

After Gyomei told everyone to try, Obanai was able to get into the Transparent World and see Muzan’s twelve vital organs (seven hearts and five brains) for a split second.

Kaburamaru

Obanai, having always been partially blind in his right eye, developed a combat technique utilising his pet snake Kaburamaru. Kaburamaru has a unique skill that lets him read and predict an opponent’s attacks, which he then tells Obanai about. Obanai is entirely blinded by Muzan, but he is still able to fight effectively. This shows how powerful this technique is. Kaburamaru also seems to understand what people say and how they feel, since he followed Tanjiro’s instructions to get Yushiro’s paper talisman and cried when he saw Obanai and Mitsuri die. Kanao said herself that Kaburamaru was a very smart person.

Exceptional Swordsman

As a Hashira in the Demon Slayer Corps, Obanai was one of the best and most powerful swordsmen in the whole group.

During the Hashira Training Arc, he was given the job of teaching the other Demon Slayers how to use their swords. Obanai has a unique style of swordsmanship in which he uses slithering movements to bend his sword and attack in impossible ways. This lets him quickly move through small spaces even though he’s using a regular wooden sword.

He was so good with a sword that he could keep up with Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King.

Obanai Breathing Style: Serpent Breathing

A Style That Obanai made himself and became a master. This style of swordsmanship uses twists and turns, like how a snake moves, to attack in strange ways. Obanai also learned to use his pet snake, Kaburamaru, as part of this Breathing Style. This made it very effective in battle, as seen in the final battle, where he could keep up with a weak Muzan while being completely blind and still pushing him into a corner.

First Form: Winding Serpent Slash

Obanai moves like a slithering snake and attacks in a twisted pattern. It confuses the enemy and makes the attacks unpredictable.

Second Form: Venom Fangs of the Narrow Head

Obanai dashes quickly behind his opponent and try to quickly cut off their head. It requires extreme speed and sword-handling skills.

Third Form: Coil Choke

Obanai goes around his opponent while cutting them from all sides with their sword.

Fourth Form: Twin-Headed Reptile

Obanai jumps forward and cuts the target in half with a horizontal slash.

Fifth Form: Slithering Serpent

Obanai bends his sword in different ways and slices his opponent, which makes it possible to cut off the heads of more than one enemy at once.

Obanai Sword: Twisted Nichirin Katana

Obanai carries around a Nichirin katana that has been heavily changed to look like an Indonesian Kris Sword. The sword is lavender and has waves on it that look like a snake twisting and turning.

The hilt of his katana is a gold circle with two snakes connected by patterns that look like plants carved into it. On the side, the words “Destroyer of Demons” are written. Obanai also carries a unique leather sheath that opens when he uses his katana. It is held together by a weak magnetic pull. It is made so that Obanai pulls his sword out vertically, not horizontally.

Obanai X Mitsuri

Obanai loves Mitsuri very much, but he doesn’t tell her because he’s proud and nervous and thinks he’s not good enough for her because he has “filthy blood.” He buys her gifts, keeps in touch with her through letters, and looks out for her.

She enjoys the attention, but she doesn’t seem to notice that he likes her. However, it turns out that she does like him. After the fight with Muzan, Mitsuri’s body is seen being held by Obanai. Even though both of them were still alive, they knew they were going to die soon.

Obanai talks about the first time they met at Ubayashiki’s mansion and how Mitsuri saved him by making him feel like an ordinary young man, and how he won’t let anyone say anything wrong about her.

In the end, Mitsuri admits that she likes him and that the meals she ate with him were the best. She also says that he has always looked at her so gently, and she asks him if he would marry her if they were reborn as humans. Obanai tells her that if she’s okay with being with someone like him, he’ll make her happy and will definitely protect her the next time. In the end, this vow comes true because they get married in their next lives.

Obanai X Giyu

Obanai hated Giyu for reasons that weren’t clear, but Obanai’s temper may have had a lot to do with it. Even so, it’s clear that he thinks of him as a friend and cares a little about Tomioka since he saved him from Muzan’s fatal attack when Giyu dropped his sword.

Why Did Obanai hate Tanjiro?

Obanai hated Tanjiro more than he hated Giyu. He hated Tanjiro with all his heart. It started when Tanjiro broke the rules for Demon Slayers and was disrespectful during the Hashira meeting. However, it got worse after Tanjiro talked to Mitsuri during the attack on the Swordsmith Village and after Mitsuri finished her Hashira Training to rave reviews.
