In this post, we will see who killed Akaza in Demon Slayer. Akaza is one of the strongest demons in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is the former Upper Moon Rank Three and displays incredible martial arts skills.

Right now, Akaza is probably the favourite villain of Anime fans. He played a significant role in the Mugen Train Arc and also killed fan favourite – Rengoku.

Who Killed Akaza, the Upper Moon Rank Three?

Tanjiro Kamado and the Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka, killed Akaza in the Infinity Castle Arc. Even though after getting hurt a lot, Akaza uses a deadly skill on himself. Giyu activated his Demon Slayer Mark during the fight, and Tanjiro attained Transparent World.

Tanjiro and Giyu encounter Akaza

Tanjiro and Giyu are running around the castle, looking for Muzan Kibutsuji and Tamayo. They have just found out that Upper Rank Two, Doma, killed Shinobu Kocho.

The Demon Slayers are both shaken by a sudden tremor.

Tanjiro smells something familiar, and when the roof above them breaks, Upper Rank Three Akaza is revealed.

Akaza is surprised to see that a “weakling” like Tanjiro is still alive. He yells his name, and Tanjiro yells it back. The three of them start to fight.

This is a way for Tanjiro to get back at the Upper Rank for killing the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku, a man he admired very much but who was killed by the Upper Rank.

Tanjiro vs Akaza – Akaza acknowledges Tanjiro

As Akaza moves toward him, Tanjiro moves out of the way of his punch and uses the Hinokami Kagura: Fire Wheel on Akaza, cutting off the Upper Rank’s arm with a lot of work. As Tanjiro tries to get better, Akaza tries to kill him with a back-fist punch.

Tanjiro dodges it and hits Akaza in the face with the Hinokami Kagura: Fake Rainbow, making an extended cut.

When Giyu looks at this fight, he is amazed and surprised by how quickly and quickly Tanjiro has improved. He compares his skills to those of a Hashira.

Akaza remembers what Kyojuro said about Tanjiro not being weak, and he accepts it as true. He decides to show him respect by using his Technique Development, Destructive Death: Compass Needle, to start the real fight.

Giyu jumps into the fight and uses Water Breathing, the Third Form: Flowing Dance, right away. Since it had been 50 years since he had seen a Water Hashira, Akaza was immediately impressed. He uses his Destructive Death: Disorder move, which is a series of quick punches that send out big shockwaves. Giyu counters this move with his own, Water Breathing, Eleventh Form: Dead Calm. He says that the last Water Hashira he fought didn’t use this move.

Akaza vs Giyu (Fire vs Water)

Akaza keeps fighting Giyu, and Hashira’s sword skills impress Akaza so much that he asks for his name. Giyu says no, so Akaza tells him that he will keep asking and then kicks him with his Destructive Death: Leg Type, Explosive Flurry. This sends Giyu flying through the castle walls to the other side.

Akaza says that Tanjiro has improved and that Kyojuro did a great job, and he is happy about his death.

This makes Tanjiro very angry, which makes Akaza talk about how he hates the weak and wants them to die. Tanjiro responds by saying that Akaza was also once a child who needed help. He says that the strong should help and protect the weak and that he wouldn’t let Akaza do whatever he wanted any longer.

Akaza Thinking of His Past

Akaza is shaken by what Tanjiro says, and he remembers Keizo saying the same things to him. He then shrugs it off and figures out that it is just a dream. In a fit of anger, he says Tanjiro is annoying and uses his Destructive Death: Crushing Type, Ten Thousand Leaves Flashing Willow.

As Tanjiro tries to avoid it, it moves much faster. The demon surprises Tanjiro and kicks him with his Destructive Death: Leg Type, Flying Planet Thousand Wheels, which makes him cough up more blood. He compares Akaza’s accuracy to that of a magnetic compass and starts to think and figure things out by watching and listening to the demon.

Akaza tries to kick Tanjiro again, but Tanjiro dodges the kick and attacks him with the Hinokami Kagura: Solar Heat Haze. Akaza is able to avoid the attack.

Giyu’s senses come back to life, and a mark shows up on his face. He moves out of the way of a shockwave punch and gives one of his own. Akaza moves out of the way of the attack, but it still hits him on the neck. The demon notices that Giyu is moving faster, but he is caught off guard by Giyu’s Water Breathing, Fourth Form: Striking Tide, which cuts Akaza’s right arm in half.

Giyu Awakened Demon Slayer Mark

Tanjiro sees that Akaza’s speed is now the same as Giyu’s and wonders how Akaza’s attacks are so accurate. He suddenly remembers what Akaza and Inosuke Hashibira said to him. Inosuke Hashibira told him how he could tell if someone behind him wanted to kill him but not if they didn’t.

Giyu and Akaza, on the other hand, fight on equal ground because Akaza has fully adjusted to Giyu’s speed. Akaza stops Tanjiro from using the Hinokami Kagura: Dance when he tries to use a back-fist strike, which Tanjiro avoids.

As Giyu and Akaza continue to fight, Tanjiro thinks back to when his father, Tanjuro Kamado, taught him how to breathe and move correctly and how to see the “Transparent World”, which is possible when the mind becomes invisible.

Tanjiro Awakens Transparent World

The Water Hashira has used up all of his forms during the fight, and Akaza, amazed at how long he fought, says that it will be the end of the Hashira. As Giyu is about to attack the demon’s fist, Akaza uses the Bell-Splitter technique to break Giyu’s sword.

He then tries to punch through Giyu, but Tanjiro, who has made it into the Transparent World, cuts off Akaza’s arm. The demon notices the changes and tries to kill the young slayer. Giyu uses this chance to attack him, but Akaza uses his strongest move, Technique Development: Final Form, Blue Silver Chaotic Afterglow.

Giyu tries to stop it with his Water Breathing, Eleventh Form: Dead Calm, but the attacks are too random and strong for him to stop them all. Even though he dodged a few blows, he still got hit by a lot of shockwaves.

Tanjiro, on the other hand, can see that everything in the Transparent World moves very slowly. Akaza can’t tell that Tanjiro is behind him, so Giyu hopes that Tanjiro goes for Akaza’s neck right away.

Tanjiro decapitates Akaza

But Tanjiro calls the demon out, and when Akaza turns to attack, Tanjiro moves out of the way. Akaza couldn’t find his fighting spirit with the compass, so Tanjiro used the Hinokami Kagura: Setting Sun Transformation to cut off Akaza’s head.

Akaza was confused and couldn’t understand why Tanjiro didn’t have any fighting spirit. He compared it to fighting a plant. He admits that Tanjiro is faster than him. Akaza knows that the “Domain of Supremacy” is nothing less than the Transparent World and a Selfless State.

He tries to put his head back on, but Giyu throws his broken sword at him, which pierces his head and pulls it away from his body. His head falls off, but his body keeps fighting with his Technique Development, Destructive Death: Compass Needle, while his head rebuilds itself.

Akaza Gets Flashback

Giyu protects Tanjiro with Water Breathing, Fourth Form: Striking Tide, which cuts the body of the headless demon in different places, but the demon heals faster. They start to fight, and even though Giyu is badly hurt, he still tries to protect Tanjiro, which makes Akaza think of Keizo.

As he moves forward, the teary-eyed ghost of Koyuki, his human self’s dead fiancée, stops him and tells him to stop.

Giyu stands up even though he wants and wants to make sure that none of his friends or family dies in front of him (like his sister and Sabito). Koyuki’s hand is on Akaza’s shoulder as his head continues to grow back.

Akaza starts to remember why he wants to get strong. He thinks back to when he was the “Demon Child” Hakuji, from when his father died to when he met Keizo and Koyuki. He remembers trying to figure out why he was alive and who he should protect. His memories of the past come back to him all at once.

During this time, Tanjiro wakes up, and Akaza’s head has almost fully healed. The demon tries to kill Giyu with his Destructive Death: Annihilation Type. Tanjiro tries to stop him, but his sword slips, and he hits Akaza instead.

Why Does Akaza Kill Himself

Tanjiro makes Akaza think about what he’s doing and makes him start to feel bad about ruining his master’s style. Akaza, with a smile of thanks on his face, uses a deadly technique on himself, cutting and crushing him and turning many parts of his body into bones. Thus, killing himself.
